The launch of 5k a day in May took place yesterday at the Hunter Medical Research Institute and was attended by the Carnelian and Inspire Team, Asthma Foundation NSW and researchers from HMRI. We received great media coverage for the launch from both NBN and ABC news online. Further media coverage is anticipated throughout the month of May. You can view the coverage by NBN on the Carnelian Projects YouTube Channel.
The 5k a Day in May challenge is to run, walk, cycle or swim for 5 kilometres everyday in May and you can take part as an individual or team.
We have a personal connection with asthma, both Kerri-Ann and Wade's children have asthma and Wade himself spent a lot of time in hospital as a child being treated for asthma. We know first hand the impact asthma can have on children and that we are still a long way from finding a cure. As a team we have a goal to reach $2,000 in donations and so far we have raised $880.
"We very much appreciate your efforts to raise funds to support vital asthma research and education services. It’s because of individuals such as yourselves, that we are able to support the 1 in 10 people with asthma and their families and communities". Michele Goldman, CEO Asthma Foundation NSW
For further information about the challenge and if you wish to donate to the Carnelian and Inspire team, visit our 5k a Day in May website. There are details on the website if you are interested in joining the challenge, it is not too late to start.
We look forward to growing this into an annual event for Newcastle and the Hunter and are aiming to branch into other states by furthering our partnership with the Asthma Foundation.
