Our top 5 Christmas table decor tips

After the craziness of 2020 and 2021 it feels like we all need some festivity, frivolity and, most of all, some fun! We’ve compiled our top 5 Christmas table decor tips - some quick, easy and inexpensive hacks to make your Christmas table look fab, allowing you to focus on the important things - quality time with your loved ones.

1. Elegant Christmas tree napkin

The perfect way to make your table look pretty with a functional item, this napkin fold literally takes a minute to do, but does work better if you have ironed your napkins first. You can do it with paper napkins too! See how to do this easy napkin fold here.

2. Quirky Scrabble place setting

Dig out the scrabble box and use the tiles to spell out the names of your guests. Just pop the letters directly on the plate or use the tile holders that come with the game. The box is then at the ready if you’re up for a game of scrabble…before the food coma sets in of course!

3. Decorative cutlery pockets

If your cutlery is a little old and scratched pop it in a pocket! Cut some hessian (burlap) to size, staple the edges, turn inside out then decorate as desired. A hot glue gun is great for adding ribbon, faux berries or other decor. Or use a stamp to add some patterns or messages. If you’re handy on a sewing machine you might like to get really creative with different shaped pockets like some of these examples.

4. Fancy fruit centrepieces

Who knew a simple piece of fruit could be so effective. Spray paint your favourite fruit or vegetable gold, silver, or whatever colour you like to add instant wow to your Christmas table. Think pears, apples, pineapples, artichokes - you’ll find some out-of-the-box ideas here. Pop them in a bowl to create a centrepiece, place them around the table between your food platters, or pair them with a tag to create a place setting. Just remember not to eat them after a few vinos!

5. Simple customised placemat

Grab a roll of brown paper, some scissors and a marker and you’re good to go. Whether it’s guest names, the Christmas lunch menu or a seasonal message, this is such an easy way to customise your table. And if you’re artistic, then go wild with your designs. Alternatively, use the paper to create a quiz or game that everyone can be involved in. Or perhaps an opportunity to reflect on the past and write down wishes for the year ahead.
