Winter trend forecast

Winter is upon us and I wanted to share the emerging trends in interior colors and finishes to help you plan the perfect kitchens and living areas.

Polytec cabinetry

At a recent Polytec information night, I was treated to a preview of some exciting new products:

  • The ‘Cove’ textured look that popped up on the design scene last year is establishing itself as a popular choice - either used as a feature on the island bench or for overhead cupboards. Woodgrain finishes such as Natural Oak or Nordic Oak work well for this type of profile. As does a classic white. Elemental Grey and Topiary are also trending cabinetry colours.

  • Venette is a new ‘silky smooth’ finish for cupboards, designed to be ‘finger-proof’ – hooray! This is a great idea because, whilst the gloss or sheen finishes look great, they are prone to showing up fingerprints. This new finish is a little more expensive, but totally worth it. New colours in this finish are botanical inspired with blues and greens.

  • Steccawood is fast becoming a sought-after product. Comprised of pre-finished panelling battens, it creates texture and looks great on a curved island bench or as a ceiling feature

  • Xenolith is an exciting product that is very durable for benchtops, being a 15mm ‘composite laminate’. A great choice for granny flats as it is hard-wearing, waterproof and the turnaround time is a lot quicker than stone benchtops.

  • Decorative screens are another fabulous new product. These are mainly used in commercial areas, but can be used for entryways to separate the living area and we expect to these grow in popularity.

  • Another popular product by Polytec is their barn door with fluted glass - these provide privacy, whilst allowing light through at the same time. They come in a range of woodgrain colours as well as white.

Dulux colours

Dulux recently published their winter colour trends, with earthy and botanical tones taking the lead. These cozy hues are calming and evoke nature, whilst remaining neutral, enabling you to add your own splash of personality with accessories.
