Why I love building

My husband and I have built 5 times! We’ve never purchased an existing house and I honestly don’t think I have the patience for renovating. When our kids were little, they were very used to moving house. When we got tired of one area or the house itself no longer suited our needs, we sold up and did it all over again.

So, it is fair to say I love building. I love the smell of paint, seeing tiles go up and watching your own kitchen coming together.

As a building addict I thought I’d share 5 reasons why building a house is the way to go:

1.    You can have the house design you want within your budget - you don’t need to compromise on layout.

2.    It is all brand new so there are no maintenance issues to pay for - it is covered under the builder’s maintenance and warranty period.

3.    The colour scheme is your own - no need to put up with yellow benchtops as you can choose the colours you love.

4.    It is a great investment – in most cases, by the time the house is built, there is already equity in the home. To begin with you only pay stamp duty on your land, not on the whole package. (First home buyers also have different, more advantageous rules on stamp duty.)

5.    You get to live in a brand new estate with other shiny new homes - meaning the feel of the area is pleasant to come home to and the community gets to know eachother as it grows.

The best part of building is the excitement you feel as you see your home being created from the ground up…it’s such a thrill and one I would recommend to anyone considering investing in a new home!
